Counselor-in-Training (C.I.T.) PROGRAM
You want to be a camp counselor? Find out what counselor life is really like! The C.I.T. Program enables girls to better understand the Girl Scout practices and principles related to camping and outdoor education. The C.I.T. Leadership Project was developed to afford Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors the opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of working with younger girls in an outdoor setting. Becoming a C.I.T. also enables girls to gain insights into the responsibilities of program delivery and camp operations. It offers experience in staff responsibilities, program goals, leadership styles, child development, group dynamics, outdoor skills, and conflict resolution. This experience is expanded upon during the second summer through skill specialization, safety practices, and actually leading activities. Specialization can be general, aquatics with Mariner-in-Training (M.I.T.) and possibly work on steps for the Guardstart ARC program, or horsemanship with Wrangler-in-Training (W.I.T. ) (Pre-requisite is Blazing Trails [preferred] or With a Bit of Tack minimum).
C.I.T. 1 and 2 is a six-week program designed to give Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors a chance to improve leadership skills. The program is a total of six weeks of training over two-three years with the intent of working at least one full summer at camp after completion, if eligible.
To prepare, girls entering grades 9-10 can take a one-week C.I.T. Introduction course.
Along the way there will be lots of camp memories, laughs, beautiful campfires, and life-long friendships.
