Each Girl Scout and volunteer will need to turn in a Release and Waiver of Liability Relating to Coronavirus/COVID-19 directly to Council prior to participating in any Girl Scout activities. The Council will only need one per active member for the 2021 year.

The Introduction to Canoeing course for girls is the first step for advanced canoeing activities and courses on rivers and lakes and is taught by ACA Certified Instructors. This course is for Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors. Discover a great new skill by spending the weekend learning basic information on boat control, paddling apparel, potential hazards and simple rescues. An entry level of paddling skills is presented and practiced, allowing you to safely and effectively maneuver on flat-water. This session includes an overnight stay.

After the registration deadline you will receive a permission slip and a list of items to bring.
This is an individual event, not a troop activity.

Prerequisite: Participants must be in good physical condition and be able to tread water and swim in water over their heads.

  • At least one female adult (with a current Volunteer Application and Background Check on file with the GS office) will be needed to help with meal preparation and overnight ratio for this activity. Please email ebarnes@gseok.org to volunteer.

We are implementing several strategies to limit the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19. With the developing situation these procedures may adapt to align with new guidance from the CDC and American Camp Association but currently are:

  • Reducing girl and volunteer capacity
  • Prescreening protocols
  • Mask wearing and physical distancing
  • Increasing focus on cleaning and sanitation of surfaces, equipment, etc

Group will spend majority of time outside. Indoor shelter will be available, if needed due to weather (heat and/or thunderstorms). Girls and volunteers will tent camp outdoors, each in individual tents. Special precautions for meals/snacks will be taken.
