Each Girl Scout and volunteer will need to turn in a Release and Waiver of Liability Relating to Coronavirus/COVID-19 directly to Council prior to participating in any Girl Scout activities. The Council will only need one per active member for the 2021 year.
The Canoe Level 2 course adds to girl’s knowledge and skills learned in Canoe Level 1 by introducing the maneuvers needed to paddle on moving water (rivers). This course is for Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors. The course includes learning to catch large eddies, performing simple ferries, recognizing and avoiding hazards, performing rescues and responding to emergencies on moving water. Girls will be paddling down the river while they learn. This session includes primitive camping near the Illinois River.
After the registration deadline you will receive a permission slip and a list of items to bring.
This is an individual event, not a troop activity.
Prerequisite: Girls must have completed a Canoe Level 1: Introduction to Canoeing course. Participants must be in good physical condition and be able to tread water and swim in water over their heads.
At least one female adult (with a current Volunteer Application and Background Check on file with the GS office) will be needed to help with meal preparation and overnight ratio for this activity. Please email ebarnes@gseok.org to volunteer.
We are implementing several strategies to limit the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19. With the developing situation these procedures may adapt to align with new guidance from the CDC and American Camp Association but currently are:
- Reducing girl and volunteer capacity
- Prescreening protocols
- Mask wearing and physical distancing
- Increasing focus on cleaning and sanitation of surfaces, equipment, etc
Group will remain outdoors throughout activity. Girls and volunteers will tent camp outdoors, each in individual tents. Special precautions for meals/snacks will be taken.
